Conditions and Treatments
Did You Know?During a heart attack, receiving expert treatment at a facility able to perform percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or other similar procedures, within 90 minutes is critical. Patients who get this type of medical attention within 90 minutes of a heart attack will experience far fewer health consequences as a result of the heart attack than someone who doesn't get help for several hours.
Heart attacks occur when the blood flow that takes oxygen to the heart muscle is drastically reduced or cut off. This happens when arteries become clogged with fat, cholesterol and other substances. The good news is that thousands of people survive heart attacks each year. Treatments include medication, surgery and implanted devices.
